June Instructor of the Month: Gina Mills
Many of our instructors wear many hats, but no one wears more hats than Gina! This summer, Gina will be teaching surf lessons, managing our surf school, and coaching at both our women’s AND our teen surf camps!
We aren’t sure how she does it, but Gina is a an amazing person inside and out, and we’re SO proud to have her on Team MSG.

“My wife and I cannot say enough about what a great experience we had with Maui Surfer Girls. We had a semi-private lesson with Gina, and it was so great we decided to come back for a second lesson the next day (rather than going zip lining). Gina was very upbeat, knowledgable, personable, and FUN. Every time we struggled to get up on the board, she would provide affirming, constructive, and specific feedback about what we needed to do better, and before we knew it we were catching waves! We also appreciated that she taught us good surfing etiquette as well as how to surf, so we respected the locals, the environment, and surfing culture. She really listened to our goals for our second lesson (that we wanted to learn how to “pick” waves so we could possibly rent boards and surf on our own later in the trip). It was also great to support such a mission-focused company; we would love to come back some day for the women’s camp with this awesome crew. If you are at all on the fence about doing a lesson, you should, and you should do it with Maui Surfer Girls, this was THE BEST PART OF OUR TRIP TO MAUI. We also got the photo package, and Krystle did a knock-out job. It was totally worth it.”

Totally patient and understanding, even though my daughter was not quite willing/ready to stand. She didn’t make her feel pressured, and she ended up having a blast riding on her tummy on Gina’s board. She says she can’t wait to try again next time we’re out there!”
“I had booked a group lesson for Monday morning. On Sunday, Maui Surfer Girls sent an email saying I was the only one signed up, and that there were a couple options. I could reschedule for group lesson on Wednesday, or upgrade to a private lesson. Choose the private lesson option…best choice ever! Gina was a fantastic instructor….smart, funny and patient. Spent about 10-15 minutes on the ground going over theory, safety and practice. Then we hit the water! Wiped out on the first couple waves, but then successfully rode the 3rd…not for long mind you, but that didn’t matter. Gina was there giving pointers (slow things down) and joining in with me as I laughed at myself about wiping out. She worked me at my pace, taking breaks when I requested, yet always ready to help me catch the next wave. 100% recommend MSG! Keep up the great work/fun!!!”
