2016 Maui Surf Event Calendar! This weekend is the popular XOXO event, which got us excited about all of the upcoming surf events for 2016!  This is just the beginning of the calendar, we will update it as more events are scheduled and information is released!

  • Event: Paia Bay Beachfest Bodyboard & Surf Competition 
  • Date: Saturday, January 16 – Sunday, January 17, 2016
  • Time: 7:00 am start
  • Location: Paia Youth and Cultural Center / Paia Bay
  • Details: Maui’s young bodyboarders and surfers show off their styles, tricks and barrel-riding aptitude. This is the 19th year!
  • Open To:  Divisions include Menehune (ages 9-14, all genders), Juniors (ages 15-17, all genders), Women (all ages), Men (all ages), Drop Knee (all ages, genders) and Free Surfing (all ages, genders). A typical event can exceed 100 competitors in the various divisions, often with most of the competition focused on Menehune and Juniors, which make it a very exciting event for everyone in the ‘ohana.

  • Event: Ski & Surf Movie – Starry Night Cinema
  • Date: Saturday, January 16, 2016
  • Time: 6:30pm
  • Location: Maui Arts and Cultural Center
  • Details: Double feature under the stars showcasing amazing athletes from sea to mountain top! First up, Warren Miller Entertainment introduces its 66th snow-sports film, Chasing Shadows. Next, see the sport of surfing as it’s never been captured before in John Florence and Blake Vincent Kueny’s second signature release, View from a Blue Moon. Preshow entertainment by Lily Meola and Tom Conway, plus prize giveaways!

  • Time: 9:00am – 3:00pm
  • Location: Launiupoko Beach Park
  • Details: XOXO is a special day where five accomplished water women professionals come together to teach young Maui girls how to surf and SUP, and inspire them to go after their dreams. We provide free food, goodie bags, games, and at the end of the day we have the girls write down a goal that they would like to achieve by the next year’s XOXO day.

  • Event: Kelly Clinic 
  • Date: Sunday, February 7, 2016
  • Time: 9:00am 12:00pm
  • Location: Ukumehame Beach Park
  • Details: Pro surfer and mentor Kelly Potts teaches teenage girls on Maui how to surf or improve their surfing for FREE! Leadership skills and team building are a part of this empowering program. Only eight girls can reserve a spot each clinic – reserve ASAP! Typically held the first Sunday of the month when schedules allow.

  • Event: Maui Women Surfing Retreats with Kelly Potts 
  • Date: Sunday, March 20, 2016
  • Time: 9:00am 12:00pm
  • Location: Launiupoko Beach Park
  • Details: A FREE surfing clinic for the hard working women of Maui who want to learn how to surf, or improve their surfing with Kelly Potts. It’s a great opportunity to connect with other women on Maui and encourage each other to get out on the water more.

  • Event: Menehune Mayhem 
  • Date: Saturday, April 2
  • Location: Ho’okipa Beach Park
  • Details: This will be the 13th year pro-surfer Ian Walsh has held this FREE surf contest for Maui’s youth, filled with fun, goodies and inspiration.
  • Event: The Butterfly Effect
  • Date: Saturday, April 16
  • Location: Launch at Paia Bay / Paia Youth and Cultural Center
  • Details: The Butterfly Effect strives to empower women through water sports. Each event is designed to give every “Butterfly” more confidence, joy, and skill in her board riding, as well as her navigation through everyday life. We do this by making environmental awareness, education, and community give-back activities a big part of each Butterfly Effect event.

  • Location: Maliko Gulch Start
  • Details:The event blends elite competition with family-friendly cultural activities and gathers some of the world’s best SUP, OC1 & OC2 paddlers to race the legendary 8-mile Maliko downwind run.

  • Event: Paddle IMUA, Presented by Bluesmiths
  • Date: May 7, 2016
  • Time: Check in 10am-12noon
  • Location: Maliko Gulch
  • Details:A Benefit for IMUA Family Services. The multiple discipline downwind paddle race will begin at Maliko Gulch and finish at Hawaiian Canoe Club (Kahului Harbor). Following the race, spectators and racers alike are welcome to the ‘Ohana Festival, with keiki activities, prize draw, award ceremony, relay race, food, beverages, and entertainment.
  • Open To:  Stand-Up Paddleboard, OC1, OC2, OC6, Prone and Surf ski.

  • Event: Maui Surfer Girls Women’s Summer Camp 
  • Date: June 19-24, 2016
  • Location: Camp Olowalu
  • Details: Re-live your summer camp days! A professional all-female surf coaching team will help you progress your skills. Surf Package includes: Oceanfront A-Frame Cabin Accommodations, 3 Healthy Meals/day, Daily Surf Coaching, Yoga, Maui Adventure Activities, Airport Transfer, On-island Transportation.
